LBD’s are Forever!!

Little Black Dress - Rupika Chopra

Brunette loves her Little Black Dress :

Knock Knock……… who’s there??? Hi Darling, It’s me …..dressed in my “Little Black Dress” for a charming evening ūüôā

The famous Little Black Dress originated in the 1920’s and yet again, Coco Chanel unlatched a gateway to an ever lasting elegant style of neutral classic LBD’s. Look….. how long the style has proven its prominent space in a woman’s closet. We are in 2018…..and we are almost closing a century with this one now. A well cut LBD, no matter how old, is a timeless companion like that diamond ring on your finger.

Little Black Dress - Rupika Chopra

There is always flexibility of  dressing up or dressing down in your LBD. Black is a powerful neutral colour. The good thing about the black dress is you can layer it with a jacket, a scarf and bold accessories. An occasion has the liberty to define your look. An elegant LBD works for every season. It makes you look sharp as A Little Black Dress flatters every skin tone. Little Back Dress - Rupika Chopra

An LBD has been an important fashion garment among the stars and the Royals because of it’s versatility. We can’t forget Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and more so none of us can ever forget the gorgeous Princess Diana dressed immaculately in her LBD outside the Serpentine Gallery in 1994.

How can we deny, that LBD’s shower sensuality and one never has to ponder much for selecting a¬†Feel Good Body Flattering LBD.¬†Although, the length of an LBD must vary for different occasions, to be in one’s comfort zone. A well cut LBD like mine is quite figure flattering and oozes exclusivity. It is the cut that matters and Italians hardly ever go wrong with it!! This dress is designed by one of my favourite designers —Elisabetta Franchi. Her cuts are divine and the detailing on each garment is beyond impressive. You feel sultry in every attire of her’s. But this one is special!!

Little Black Dress - Rupika Chopra

I love the layers on the dress as they make the attire more feminine and add a softer touch to it. I decided to play it cool with accessories and wore a pair of pearl earrings with it. You can blast this outfit with chunkier earrings and a bracelet as well. Leave your hair in soft curls to look enchanting.

Wear this dress to – a formal dinner, cocktail, a special date, and of course to any party and be assured, you will set the eyes rolling!!

Striking in Stripes!!!

Topshop Striped Suit - Rupika Chopra

The Rebellious Stripes:)

Stripes have the power to distinguish you anywhere!! And when you brace yourself ¬†in a well fitted black and white striped suit, you are ready to kill!! Stripes are a pattern popularly worn by both men and women all over the world and look very chic and elegant at the same time. There is something rebellious about this pattern’s vibe which screams – YEAH…..I HAVE A MIND AND STYLE OF MY OWN!!!

Black and White stripe was once, the uniform of the detainees. Believe it or not….in 1310, to wear striped clothes was demeaning and worn by only social outcasts – such as jugglers, clowns, sex workers, cripples etc. Because of their striking impact in 1800’s, they became the uniform for the ones in the prison cell, making prisoners¬†easily identifiable – clotting their escape.¬†But later in the US, the badge of shame attached to the pattern was abolished by many states.

Topshop Striped Suit - Rupika Chopra

The famous striped Breton shirt as we know it today, came into being after the French Act was passed in 1858 – which introduced the Navy and White striped knitted shirt as the uniform for all French Navy sea men in Brittany. The striped shirt became the famous “mariner garment”¬†as it made easier to spot the shipmate on Board. And it continued to gain popularity in the 1900’s.

My favourite designer Gabriella Coco Chanel, brought a fashion revolution with her Nautical Collection at the end of the first world war around 1917. With increasing popularity of the seaside destinations like Saint Tropez, Coco Chanel designed the striped shirt paired with flared trousers…….and the style went on to be celebrated by the working class and the rich and famous. As the love for stripes grew, Tops and Shirts were being worn with Skirts, Blazers and Trousers.

When fashion catches waves with the glitterati, then it stimulates the world more than ever. ūüôā Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Jean Paul Gaultier, James Dean and many more displayed their love for Stripes in the 1900’s. The Pop stars embraced the stripes with much oomph aswell.

Stripes have stood the test of time and have come a long way banishing taboo from the past. Today, Stripes have earned their place as something far more solid that a wardrobe must Рhave, surpassing age, sex and trends. The very Italian РMissoni is recognised from far with the zig zag machine woven stripes. Brands like Missoni, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, D&G, Paul Smith, Armani, Jaspal, Zara, Topshop, DKNY, Etro and many more have repeatedly  displayed stripes with an infectious flare.

Flaming it with Flamingos!!!

IMG_7623-2

Flamingos it is !!!

These¬†water birds are more easily seen on the High Streets in the display windows of the famous brands, than by the lagoons or lakes. ¬†Flamingos are the National Bird of The Bahamas, but right now they are the Global Emblem of the Fashion Scenario. I have been witnessing them all over the place, across countries. Brands like Sandro, Maje, Kooples, Valentino, Gucci, Zara, Banjhara, Givenchy, Topshop, ASOS, Adidas, Debenhams, Dune, Ted Baker, Kate Spade, Anthropologie¬†and many more….. have so much to offer in the Flamingo print.

Flamingos are the Fashion Icons of 2018.

Prada has even launched a PINK FLAMINGOS PERFUME this season. I am definitely going to grab one!! One of my favourite brands for leather accessories РSMYTHSON, has also launched Flamingos correspondence cards. Guys! Flamingos are dominating the  FASHION SCENE all over the world. They are on shoes, t-shirts, skirts, jackets, trench coats, swim wear, pocket squares, earings, hats, kimonos, I- phone cases, laptop covers, headbands, dresses, bags and even on the cozy cardigans, sweaters and on socks as well.

IMG_7615

Pink Flamingos once a lawn ornament, has left the boring garden, to taste their magical power in the fashion scenario globally.

They first became popular as the Pink Lawn Birds. They were placed in the lawns and looked stunning, thanks to the man, Don Featherstone, the inventor of the original plastic lawn ornament. Due to the similarity in homes post the World War 2 construction, units looked just identical, so women started adding these Flamingos in their lawn to make their home appealing. ¬†The New York Times described Don Featherstone as the man who put the Hot flamingos in the garden of the millions of working class families in the 60’s as, ” Indelibly altering the landscape of mid century America”. ¬†He first tried to experiment with Ducks but it failed. But ¬†Flamingos were a success,¬†as they are beautiful birds and bring playfulness with their colour not only in the lawns but on anything.¬†Flamingos became a Mascot adopted by the gay bars in the 70’s and in the 80’s it was at its peak, thanks to the POP Art Culture. The Governor of Massachusetts, actually¬†honoured this beautiful bird as “an essential contribution to the American Folk Art”¬†

IMG_7642

These gorgeous birds can be also found on the wallpapers, lampshades, cushions, bed linen, blankets, coasters and even on crockery. Flamingos are not really something you see in daily life – so they do bring a fantasy into your closet and home.

So, If you want to be with it, go and buy anything with flamingos made on it!! ¬†This summer, Flamingo is like the pineapple of 2016. The designers have yet again fallen in love with this exquisite creature. Yes there is so much bird watching happening this season …….men can also find these birds on fabulous shirts, ties, pants, jackets, pocket squares, socks and shorts.

IMG_7657-3

But why Flamingos ??- Needless to say – They are tall, beautiful birds, elegant with their long neck and dainty legs. The colour Pink makes it perky and yes it associates a personality with grace and fun at the same time.

When my eyes fell on this dress from Bhanjara Formentera, I fell in love with it instantly!! ¬†Wish I had grabbed it in another colour as well, but never mind ……I will find the birds anywhere I am! ūüôā The detail on the dress caught my attention. It’s bell sleeves with lace on it, makes it retro and very feminine. This dress is a high – low one – is longer at the back and shorter in front and that makes it more doll like adding ruffles to it. You can wear this dress to a fab lunch with friends or a date – it’s got something cute about it!

“Check” on me !!!

Windowpane Check Two Piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

Checkmate:)

“The King is dead” – The famous expression of “Checkmate” in the oriental game of chess, boasts of a defining VICTORY!!!

You check on me……..and I ……..check on you!!! Yes, Checks are a dominant print these days. This design is used most frequently on Blazers, Trousers, Twin -sets, Jumpsuits, Shirts, Skirts, Flared Pants, Tops etc……Checks are everywhere!!!

Windowpane Check Two Piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

Checks are timeless and opting a good fabric suit or singles never fail to be a good investment. “Windowpane checks”¬†like the one I am wearing, has shown a regular presence in each season. Checks are a great way to add power to your boring working wardrobe. It has a clean defining vibe to it. And have you forgotten the Checkered flags in Auto Racing ? The checkered flag is waved at the finishing line to signal that the race has come to an end. To me it concludes the winning moment, celebrating and taking control.

Windowpane Check Two Piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

I am wearing my favourite Two- Piece Windowpane Check outfit. Its classy and bold at the same time. Adding a white or a black jacket to this look will make it Mighty!! ¬†The Pencil Skirt looks chic and simple. This look is strong and caramelised with simplicity. Christian Dior created the first pencil skirt in 1940’s and women immediately embraced the curvy shape of the classic hem. Pencil skirts for long have been a part of a woman’s suit ensemble, worn with a well fitted jacket, shirt or a T- shirt. Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn set the glamour arena on fire with those slender curves in the pencil skirts and rib hugging waists. Windowpane Check Two Piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

They have been my most favourite as they shape your body like second skin and yes you want to work your body hard before getting into them. No matter what size you are, be well toned to wear this outfit. And its not tough to get there if you are eating right and at the right time. Lets learn to be wise with that!

IMG_3593

The look rides on a “don’t mess with me” vibe. Pointed heels add a sharp edge to it. This outfit can be mixed and matched with a different skirt and a shirt as well, but the twin- set makes it strongly bonded and leaves an audacious impact. You can wear this outfit to a lunch or dinner and if you sport on a white shirt with this pencil skirt to work, it will give you an ultramodern yet an elegant air.

Woven earnings will look amazing with this outfit like the ones below:

Brands like Topshop, Zara, ASOS, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Urban Outfitters, H&M , Shein and more have loads to offer in checks. And of course, Burberry is all about the charming checks too!!

Ruffle Truffle !!!

Ruffle Power - Rupika ChopraRuffle Power - Rupika Chopra

Ruffle Power :

When you adorn yourself in a “ruffled” attire, you embrace a legacy! The “ruffle” was once worn by royalty of both genders to represent strength and power. They originated in Spain in the 50’s. Initially the “ruff” was a piece of clothing worn around the neck in the 16th century by the aristocrats and were made of fine linens, silk, lace etc decorated with gold, silver and fine silk. It was an important fashion accessory kept with utmost care. The “ruff” was further added to the cuffs and the sleeves of the clothes that added glamour and made a feminine fashion statement in more years to come.

Ruffle Power - Rupika Chopra

Ruffles became quite a rage in the pop culture in the 70’s, famously called the “Puffy Shirts” and more so the “Poet Shirts”. And look at them today – ruffles aren’t going anywhere – they have successfully ruffled the test of time and look so stylish even in the existing hour. They add an unmatched oomph to an attire. Both men and women can wear them effortlessly.

My mind propels me to think of the glamorous Flamenco Dancers in their flattering cuts and sultry flowing ruffles, creating euphoria among the people. Yes! Ruffles do have that magic!! A ruffled shirt makes you look regal if worn to match the occasion. Enchanting designs by Dolce and Gabbana, Jenny Packham, Alberta Ferretti, Roberto Cavalli, Altuzarraand many more have revived the Spanish glamour fabulously.

Ruffle Power - Rupika Chopra

I fused my wrinkled frill shirt with my favourite High- Low flounce skirt from Sandro. It adds style with a hint of sensuality. You can also wear a ruffled shirt with flared denims and look retro. Or team this skirt with a classic well fitted shirt and look chic.

My shoes add an edgy vibe to the apparel which reflects my assertive disposition.

Enjoy the look and don’t forget to smell hypnotic!

Twinning it!

Two piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

Two Piece Outfits :

So where do I begin with my love for the two piece outfits…….They are simply fabulous!! YES!! We love to flaunt our mid – riff in that peeping combination. Two piece outfits have been catching a high wave for a while.

A two piece outfit is never a dress down…no matter what you wear, a crop top with shorts, pants or a skirt- they all look astounding.

Going back to History in the 1940’s women wore high waisted fitted tops with the A -line skirts and pants. With the start of the World War 2, strict rationing on fabric took place and the dresses became shorter. Tops became more masculine and there was an invention of the shoulder pads making women look edgy and sharper. In 1940’s most tops were designed to reveal very little skin unlike today.

Two Piece Outfit - Rupika Chopra

The two piece outfits gave liberty to women to experiment more with their looks and play with their wardrobe. They mixed and matched the tops, skirts and trousers. They could make a new outfit everyday. It became so practical and fun at the same time.

We obviously cannot forget the iconic fashion developer, Gabriella Chanel who introduced the most amazing two piece sets. The tweed jackets and skirts famously called as a “Chanel Suit” became a ritzy proclamation. And then on, the sets became popular for both formal and casual affair.

At present the rage for off shoulder crop tops, spaghetti, ruffled tubes with balloon sleeves, ruffled off shoulder tops with high waisted pants, shorts, skirts etc have possessed the mind of most vogue lovers. The diverse prints of Polka, Ankara, Flannel, Geometric, Retro, Animal etc own the power to define your vibe. It’s your style that perfectly portrays your mood for the occassion – You can choose to look classic, bohemian, bold, exotic, arty, carefree, vivacious and more.

IMG_2857

My outfit has a casual, happy and a fun vibe. It is perfect for a lunch with friends or a sundowner anywhere. You can wear a cute headband to add vibrance to your appearance. Funky pair of glasses can spark your look up. Carry a cool colour bag that enhances the colour of your outfit. Team it up with subtle shoes so it breaks the shebang to bring a fine balance. Lock your look with an enticing fragrance and shine on …….inside out!!

Double Breast Suit - Rupika Chopra

Blaze it up !!

Hello Readers !!¬†Hope you are doing rather well! It has been a fabulous week for me with yoga, meditation, writing and meeting some old friends. It has been truly therapeutic to align myself ūüôā ! Gratitude to the universe!!

Moving on to Fashion, trends never fail to surprise me …..they come back very interestingly each time ….make an impact and stay for more decades just like the Double Breasted Suits. They have taken over my wardrobe this season!!

Double¬†Breasted Jackets originated in Britain in the 19th century. Men used to wear these jackets casually to the tennis matches. They were considered to be an informal attire for office wear at that time. It was the Prince of Wales in the 1920’s, who wore it often at the formal occasions and made it relevant as a formal attire. They maintained popularity till 1950’s and became quite popular again in the 1980’s and the early 2000’s.

Double Breasted Jackets originated in the Military Рwith the Royal Navy. Out of necessity, the tailors had to develop a jacket to protect the sailors from the harsh conditions they experienced at sea while performing their duty.

Double Breast Suit - Rupika Chopra

No matter how many……decades go by, the Double Breasted Blazers and the Bell Bottom trousers can never go out of style. I have been collecting my well fitted suits in all colours over the years. Whenever I wear them they set me apart and look enthralling. I love the power that oozes within me when I “suit up”. Power dressing defines you in a very unique way. No matter how you choose to wear it depicts an image of a strong woman who knows what she wants. Double Breast Suit - Rupika Chopra

At present there is a huge shift in the trends and the Double Breasted Suits have stormed into the fashion scene. Balmain, Alexander McQueen, D&G, Gucci, Top Shop, Zara to name a few have revived the vintage inspired look impactfully. They are available in fabulous colours and prints. Well cut double breasted suits in Florals, Stripes, Plain, Checks etc have taken over the market rapidly this season. They are chic and influential.

No matter what you wear with a suit, a white T- shirt, a formal shirt or a coquettish top inside…the ensemble becomes a great pick for any occasion because power dressing adds gravitas to your demeanour. According to the occasion, you can choose to look sultry, dynamic, resolute and stimulating with a well defined Double Breast Suit.¬†

The Knotty Affair !!!

The knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

I like it Knotttyy:)

I remember when I was in School in the 7th Grade, I started tying my shirts with the high wasted Drainpipes. Oh Yeah! I thought I looked so cool!!! Almost like the Statue of Liberty!!

The knotted styled shirts go way back in the 1950’s reflecting liberation from the 1940’s, when blouses were tucked in the trousers and skirts. The knotted affair at first, began by the teens, borrowing their dad’s old shirts and wearing them more fashionably by tying the shirt tails around their waists and opening a few buttons.

Menswear took notice of this trend and started to design men’s tailored shirts in women’s sizes. The check knotted shirts became so popular in the 50’s. A whole new trendsetting wave took over.

The Knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

The knotted shirts are so retro and look super chic when worn with the high waisted skirts, drainpipes, loose denims, trousers and shorts. They accentuate your well toned waist and make the legs look longer with the high waisted shorts/denims or skirts. They exuberate a confident, careless and rebellious vibe. I would choose this style any day over the skinny tops. Knotted shirts are a perfect blend of power from the old school and present modernity. The style is chic, edgy, casual, fun and bohemian! You can choose to match your vibe and you will only reflect that in your demeanour.

Knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

The best part about the Knotted Affair is that most prints like the Checks, Stripes, Zig Zags, Floral etc look fab when worn with the cool combinations……and yes…….that’s self defining!! You can pick any oversized shirt and knot it and you will never fail to be the Pacesetter ūüôā¬†

I have combined this look with my cool wooden earnings woven with warm colours like green and yellow to brighten the outfit. They introduce an element of fun. The white and yellow striped shorts brighten the white shirt marvellously.

Align with the Asymmetric!

Align with the Asymmetric

A breath of Fresh Air ūüôā¬†

The heat of Summer can be far easy to deal with a linen dress like this one. Asymmetric style goes back to the Victorian era during the 19th century. It brings fluidity on different fabrics no matter what it is Рcotton, chiffon, silks etc. This Linen Asymmetric dress has a bohemian vibe. Mostly asymmetric styles are playful and unconventional. The unevenness of the dress makes it cool, creative and emits a sense of freedom of being.

Align with the Asymmetric dress

You can wear fun accessories with it in your neck. ¬†You can laze, walk, run around and breathe in a dress like this on a hot day. This super casual dress can be teamed up with a cool summer hat and flats. One can wear this dress with a nice colourful scarf to add some hue. A scarf with fun designs e.g. a lipstick print, sun glass, a woman’s face etc can display perkiness.

I am wearing my favourite gold leather handmade shoes from Donna Piu. They are airy and comfortable at the same time. They add shimmer and a subtle bling on a hot summer day. Donna Pi√Ļ - Rupika chopra

My favourite summer Bamboo Sun Hat¬†is breathable, cool and contemporary at the same time. Bamboo wicks away moisture and it does not hold heat and deliver better UV Protection. This hat is a statement in itself!! Go grab one and don’t forget to smell good. Enjoy the look!!

Vogue Your Work Up!

Vogue your work up- Rupika Chopra

Work in Style never goes out of fashion:

Grey is a cool, neutral and a balanced colour. It is mostly associated with formal, professional, classic, elegant and sophisticated dressing. It is a timeless colour that reflects maturity and responsibility. It often is associated with being a boring colour. That is where the magic of great cuts and design come into play. No matter how boring the colour Grey is …..it can look interesting when worn with some flair.

This is one of my favourite dress that can be worn to work, mostly with a well cut black jacket on. This dress is classy and chic and grey adds seriousness to the look. The belt gives it a statement and makes the ensemble perfect for a whole day at work. You can wear this dress to a conference or a work lunch/ dinner meeting. Vogue your work up - Rupika Chopra

I am simply in love with the different shades of grey. Infact a lighter toned dress, or a skirt/ pants worn with a white shirt look super elegant and decorous. I love the fact that we can wear this colour in summer and winter exquisitely. During winter you can wear a pair of black stockings with any well fitted grey dress and look discerning.Vogue your work up - Rupika Chopra

So add some spark with the way you wear this neutral shade because grey is here to stay!!! And who says Grey is boring ………We all love shades of grey ūüôā !!!
