Suit Yourself !!

Double Breast Suit - Rupika Chopra

Blaze it up !!

Hello Readers !! Hope you are doing rather well! It has been a fabulous week for me with yoga, meditation, writing and meeting some old friends. It has been truly therapeutic to align myself 🙂 ! Gratitude to the universe!!

Moving on to Fashion, trends never fail to surprise me …..they come back very interestingly each time ….make an impact and stay for more decades just like the Double Breasted Suits. They have taken over my wardrobe this season!!

Double Breasted Jackets originated in Britain in the 19th century. Men used to wear these jackets casually to the tennis matches. They were considered to be an informal attire for office wear at that time. It was the Prince of Wales in the 1920’s, who wore it often at the formal occasions and made it relevant as a formal attire. They maintained popularity till 1950’s and became quite popular again in the 1980’s and the early 2000’s.

Double Breasted Jackets originated in the Military – with the Royal Navy. Out of necessity, the tailors had to develop a jacket to protect the sailors from the harsh conditions they experienced at sea while performing their duty.

No matter how many……decades go by, the Double Breasted Blazers and the Bell Bottom trousers can never go out of style. I have been collecting my well fitted suits in all colours over the years. Whenever I wear them they set me apart and look enthralling. I love the power that oozes within me when I “suit up”. Power dressing defines you in a very unique way. No matter how you choose to wear it depicts an image of a strong woman who knows what she wants. Double Breast Suit - Rupika Chopra

At present there is a huge shift in the trends and the Double Breasted Suits have stormed into the fashion scene. Balmain, Alexander McQueen, D&G, Gucci, Top Shop, Zara to name a few have revived the vintage inspired look impactfully. They are available in fabulous colours and prints. Well cut double breasted suits in Florals, Stripes, Plain, Checks etc have taken over the market rapidly this season. They are chic and influential.

No matter what you wear with a suit, a white T- shirt, a formal shirt or a coquettish top inside…the ensemble becomes a great pick for any occasion because power dressing adds gravitas to your demeanour. According to the occasion, you can choose to look sultry, dynamic, resolute and stimulating with a well defined Double Breast Suit.

You can wear double breasted jackets with torn denims, teaming it with a slick pair of heels, funky sneakers or wedge heels and you will have dominance over the conventional dressing by far.  A jacket immediately gives you a dapper and an ultra modern look. The flared pants make your vibe retro and enhance your style…..which surely narrates some character!!

So what are you waiting for – Grab your “SUIT” girls!! You will look Astounding!!

The Knotty Affair !!!

The knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

I like it Knotttyy:)

I remember when I was in School in the 7th Grade, I started tying my shirts with the high wasted Drainpipes. Oh Yeah! I thought I looked so cool!!! Almost like the Statue of Liberty!!

The knotted styled shirts go way back in the 1950’s reflecting liberation from the 1940’s, when blouses were tucked in the trousers and skirts. The knotted affair at first, began by the teens, borrowing their dad’s old shirts and wearing them more fashionably by tying the shirt tails around their waists and opening a few buttons.

Menswear took notice of this trend and started to design men’s tailored shirts in women’s sizes. The check knotted shirts became so popular in the 50’s. A whole new trendsetting wave took over.

The Knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

The knotted shirts are so retro and look super chic when worn with the high waisted skirts, drainpipes, loose denims, trousers and shorts. They accentuate your well toned waist and make the legs look longer with the high waisted shorts/denims or skirts. They exuberate a confident, careless and rebellious vibe. I would choose this style any day over the skinny tops. Knotted shirts are a perfect blend of power from the old school and present modernity. The style is chic, edgy, casual, fun and bohemian! You can choose to match your vibe and you will only reflect that in your demeanour.

Knotted Affair - Rupika Chopra

The best part about the Knotted Affair is that most prints like the Checks, Stripes, Zig Zags, Floral etc look fab when worn with the cool combinations……and yes…….that’s self defining!! You can pick any oversized shirt and knot it and you will never fail to be the Pacesetter 🙂

I have combined this look with my cool wooden earnings woven with warm colours like green and yellow to brighten the outfit. They introduce an element of fun. The white and yellow striped shorts brighten the white shirt marvellously.

You can wear a trendy pair of pastel wedge heels or nude peep toes with this attire and you are ready to roll!!

Wear this ensemble to a fun lunch or a sundowner……and don’t forget to smell divine!!

Align with the Asymmetric!

Align with the Asymmetric

A breath of Fresh Air 🙂

The heat of Summer can be far easy to deal with a linen dress like this one. Asymmetric style goes back to the Victorian era during the 19th century. It brings fluidity on different fabrics no matter what it is – cotton, chiffon, silks etc. This Linen Asymmetric dress has a bohemian vibe. Mostly asymmetric styles are playful and unconventional. The unevenness of the dress makes it cool, creative and emits a sense of freedom of being.

Align with the Asymmetric dress

You can wear fun accessories with it in your neck.  You can laze, walk, run around and breathe in a dress like this on a hot day. This super casual dress can be teamed up with a cool summer hat and flats. One can wear this dress with a nice colourful scarf to add some hue. A scarf with fun designs e.g. a lipstick print, sun glass, a woman’s face etc can display perkiness.

I am wearing my favourite gold leather handmade shoes from Donna Piu. They are airy and comfortable at the same time. They add shimmer and a subtle bling on a hot summer day. Donna Più - Rupika chopra

My favourite summer Bamboo Sun Hat is breathable, cool and contemporary at the same time. Bamboo wicks away moisture and it does not hold heat and deliver better UV Protection. This hat is a statement in itself!! Go grab one and don’t forget to smell good. Enjoy the look!!

Vogue Your Work Up!

Vogue your work up- Rupika Chopra

Work in Style never goes out of fashion:

Grey is a cool, neutral and a balanced colour. It is mostly associated with formal, professional, classic, elegant and sophisticated dressing. It is a timeless colour that reflects maturity and responsibility. It often is associated with being a boring colour. That is where the magic of great cuts and design come into play. No matter how boring the colour Grey is … can look interesting when worn with some flair.

This is one of my favourite dress that can be worn to work, mostly with a well cut black jacket on. This dress is classy and chic and grey adds seriousness to the look. The belt gives it a statement and makes the ensemble perfect for a whole day at work. You can wear this dress to a conference or a work lunch/ dinner meeting. Vogue your work up - Rupika Chopra

I am simply in love with the different shades of grey. Infact a lighter toned dress, or a skirt/ pants worn with a white shirt look super elegant and decorous. I love the fact that we can wear this colour in summer and winter exquisitely. During winter you can wear a pair of black stockings with any well fitted grey dress and look discerning.Vogue your work up - Rupika Chopra

So add some spark with the way you wear this neutral shade because grey is here to stay!!! And who says Grey is boring ………We all love shades of grey 🙂 !!!

Polka Folka - Rupika Chopra

Polka Folka:

The word Polka is derived from the Polish for the “Polish woman”. Polka dots are so feminine. Today when we wear them we inherit and embrace the legacy from the women who have worn them before us.

America’s love affair with the Polka dot began in 1926, when Miss America was photographed in a polka dot swimsuit. Shortly after, 1928, Disney introduced its cartoon darling “Minnie Mouse” wearing a red polka dot dress and a matching bow. And then, there was no looking back ….polka dots became the next big thing in the fashion scenario. Throughout the 1930’s polka dotted dresses appeared in stores nipped in ribbons and bows. And of course we all cannot forget the sexy damsel Marilyn Monroe in the polka dotted bikini, which lead to the creation of the HIT SONG of all times – “Itsby Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini – By Brian Hyland.

There is surely a nostalgia associated with the polka dots and they communicate a playful femininity and girlishness. Polka dots speak for themselves. When worn, they describe the mood and personality of a person. Polka Folka - Rupika Chopra

A cute polka dotted dress is perfect for a date 🙂 …….I love the magic of bows on it too.  However, my look is different from a polka dress to a fun and sexy style from the 80s. I love the loose polka top with these shimmery comfortable stretchy pants. Combined with each other they ooze an intriguing vibe. I smoked my eyes up as they add so much character to my attire. These pointed stilettos add an edge to the entire ensemble. Wear a watch or a cool bracelet to perk it up.

Try this look out for a nice fun evening or a party. I am sure you will leave your mark !!!Polka Folka - Rupika Chopra

Havana, ooh na na!

Flower Power 🙂

I woke up feeling super excited about what I was going to post today for you all because flower power is my treasured oomph for summer. Flowers are a symbol of beauty. Women irrespective of age or origin are enraptured by their very presence. They make us feel feminine and beautiful.

Floral prints originated in the East i.e in China in the 12th century. They then travelled to the west from the Orient and Asian countries. In the middle ages, the traders from the East brought beautiful silks printed with exotic flower designs to Europe and sold them at very high prices, which only the rich could afford at that time. It was undoubtedly a symbol of royalty to adorn them.

But in the 21st century we are fortunate to have access to hundreds of designs and colours. Floral prints have taken over the global fashion scene prodigally. To name more than a few brands like D&G, Gucci, Libertine, Ports, Balenciaga, Carolina Herrera, Lanvin, Alberta Ferrati etc. have revived the lush of “Flower power”.

Havana Oh na na - Rupika Chopra

I mentioned in my previous blog that this summer is all about colour 🙂 and we all are keen as mustard, to experiment with it all.  Brands like Zara never lag behind to provide us with affordable fashion options as well. So here is my look for this week – It is chic, vibrant, eye-catching, stimulating and more…….The mix of warm colours like RED, YELLOW AND ORANGE evoke warmth and energy. It emits cheerfulness, emotion, passion, focus and comfort.

My outfit is fun on the top and subtle at the bottom with a hint of orange on my feet. I chose to wear a “White Linen” high waisted trouser with it. White is soothing and it is bringing a beautiful balance with the colours on my cotton silk flowery shirt. Its almost adding composure to my being. Flower Power - Rupika Chopra

I am wearing a pair of orange heels to keep the hues going for a fine equilibrium. This outfit can be worn to a lunch or a sundowner. You can also wear a high waisted white, yellow or even a black short or a long flowy skirt with this knotted shirt. That will look cool at a beach party too.

So go add some power with those pretty flowers 🙂 And don’t forget to smell good…. girl!!!

A Dip in Yellow!

A Dip In Yellow - Rupika Chopra

Hello Mango:)

Summer is all about colour, flowers, sunshine and vibrance. And Yes! I am only getting hungry for more colour in my closet. A few months ago, I was shooting with a  very sweet photographer friend, Mark Bennington. He looked at my wardrobe and said, “girl…… you need to add some colour in that collection….. Some tint will bring more joy into your life.” How sweet was that !! But its absolutely true!! I have been told by so many people that I look good, but I mostly dress up in the monochromes.

And yeah….. I have evolved from that space and decided to go all yummy with the HUES. Happy tints change the vibe of a personality…….It brightens you up!!

Yellow is a warm colour which often evokes feelings of happiness, optimism and energy. So why wait to add some sunshine in your life:)

A dip is yellow - Rupika Chopra

This summer look is all about fun!! This dress suits my body type a lot, as I am athletic. So anyone who is fit and well toned will look super in this dress because this colour makes your curves visible and how! It is casual and the orange belt makes it perky.  This dress can we worn to a fun lunch and yet stand out. It is comfortable and stretchy, that makes it easy to laze around. You can wear flat peep toes or a nice pair of beige wedge heels with it. Experiment with different colour footwear, depending on the colour of the belt you choose to wear and accessorise yourself accordingly. I have kept the look minimalistic. You can complete the look with a nice sling bag, a cute clutch or a tote.

Wear your best Sunblock and do not forget to carry your UPF Ultraviolet Protection Factor Hat.

Colour my Stripes!

Colour my Stripes - Rupika Chopra

The Vibrant Stripes: 🙂

I tried two kinds of looks with this outfit –

a) Casual – I made it casual for the day by wearing an orange colour belt and made it fun and relaxed with  white peep toe flat footwear and a cool summer hat. 🙂 Hats add much character to the look and they also help us protect our face from the UV rays. Please grab a good quality Hat which is UPF Protected. UPF refers to the Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Hats have increasingly become incorporated with fabrics and weaves that produce this Sun Protection Quality. I always believe in Quality over Quantity rules the game!! So grab a good one!!

I grabbed these pants as soon as I saw them in a store in Bangkok. I love the cool vibrant  look the colour green adds to it. White and black stripes always stand out but colour takes it a notch above!! This summer, I want to play with all colours. Just imagine an orange, yellow or a red stripe instead of green on these pants – even those will be refreshing. Different colour tops can be worn with it i.e white, green, black and of course you can wear an orange or a red top if the stripe was of that colour on these pants.

In the day don’t forget to wear your best SPF 50 with the Hat. You can choose to embellish accessories on your neck and hands but I chose to keep it cool without wearing any. But a watch is perfect idea in the day.

So Perk your wardrobe up and get colourful in your Stripe……I mean Stride……!!! 🙂

b) Bold and Semi Formal

In the second look I changed my style and made it apt for dinner with accessories and a nude pair of heels. Changed the colour of my belt from orange to black, as the colour black gives the outfit more power for the evening. You can also wear a black pair of stilettos and look sharper. Carry a black evening bag to complete the look.

And don’t forget to always smell good and soulfully shine within for that glow on your lovely face. Cheers!!

Stripy Spring!

Linen Love :

So summer is all about being fresh, sexy, strong and fit, having hydrated and a glowing skin and yes ….. its all about colour and style and wearing a warm smile. 🙂

This is my favourite look to begin with because its subtle and sexy, yet its powerful as the jacket makes you look cool and chic. Linen is what I mostly breathe in Summer. Whether it is a linen shirt worn with a cool pair of well fitted denims, shorts  or a linen trouser worn with a t- shirt, it always looks cool. You can just never go wrong with it!!!

Blue and white is a great combination and stripes are so summery anyway… go on fearlessly and try this look. And keep your make up minimalistic and you can make a your hair into a ponytail, adorn a hair band or leave them open just like me.
