Love for Jumpsuits!!

Orange is a colour of creativity, warmth, sunshine, success, balance, enthusiasm, freedom, joy, sensuality and happiness. Orange works wonders for colour therapy and elevates one’s mood. Orange is the colour of the Sacral Chakra, which aligns and brings a balance, boosts creativity and sexuality. Orange is a striking tint but there is something uplifting about this hue.

I have a few orange outfits in my closet that stand a ground of their own. My summer linen orange dress and orange flared pants, that look spectacular when worn to formal occasions or summer evenings.

As the word suggests – “Jumpsuit” – A suit in which you can jump! It gives one freedom of movement and allows to be carefree. That is why I call it a no fuss super gear.

Jumpsuit was first designed by a Florentine artist named Thayat, in the year 1919, as a practical piece of clothing worn by parachuters, sky divers and later of course for pilots and professional racers too. It was a no fuss uniform for men with dangerous and adventurous professions.

It was later in the 1930’s when Else Schiaperelli designed and innovated a “Glamorous Jumpsuit“ and rocked the Paris Couture scene with a tantalising twist to this outfit. This was an iconic outfit, with a blend of masculine and feminine sex appeal, giving women a sense of power in that era.

Jumpsuits were loved by all and obviously, it’s spell did not spare the desirable women of Hollywood. Katherine Hepburn wore a silk one piece in the 1937 film “Stage Door”. Jumpsuits culturally became a symbol of strong and empowered women. There is something daring about the “Jumpsuit” and everyone fell in love with that vibe. It was liberating and became a bold woman’s style statement.

Women in the 1940’s were seen wearing cotton jumpsuits to work. The pace in every industry had taken a back seat because of the World War II. But these one piece outfits pretty much stayed in fashion and by the 60’s it made a huge come back on the fashion runways when Andre’ Courreges showed futuristic styles in Paris. In the 70’s Yves Saint Laurent sizzled the runways with it’s stunning palazzo suits. Flared, narrow, straight cuts were being designed for personalities like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Veronica Lake, Anne Bancroft, Rita Hayworth etc.

Jumpsuits became the Pop Icons “Cult Costume”. The music lovers and performers took an absolute fancy to this style and icons like Cher, Elvis Presley, Abba, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, etc donned jumpsuits for their performances.They were now being designed for stars and performers in glittering colours and snazzy styles. The pop starts would accessorise their hair and wear funky belts and shoes to look glamorous. Jumpsuits continued to be very much in vogue in the 90’s and as well as 2000’s. The style is simply comfortable, edgy, sexy, sassy and reflects of a strong personality.

Sometimes I feel like a “cat woman” in my well fitted jumpsuits and I pair them with a good pair of boots.

I love the jumpsuit I am wearing by Elisabetta Franchi. She is one of my favourite Italian designers today. Her cuts and fits not only flatter your body but also make you feel special as a woman. More than that, her products are animal cruelty free.

I love the work done on the front with layers of fabric designed on the net. It looks chic and feminine. I have accessorised my outfit with a gold chain belt, which makes it perfect for a formal evening. One piece outfit saves the hassle of deciding what to wear as separates and one never has to be conscious of the way one moves around in one. Jumpsuits are clearly a part of power dressing as it oozes confidence in abundance.

Some of my favourite jumpsuits are from Zara, Kooples, Stella McCartney, Balmain, Topshop, Asos, Gucci, Alice & Olivia, Rolland Mouret, Zimmermann, Nili Lotan etc. The options are plenty to choose from formal, semi formal, casual, bohemian styles.

The unconventional “BELL BOTTOMS”!!

Ring a Bell – with “THE BELL BOTTOMS” :

Bell Bottoms or the flared pants are the coolest depiction of a personality with distinctive views and someone who is a lethal combination of being firm, strong and liberated at the same time.

Bell bottoms are worn by “history makers”. There is something inspiring about the the flared styled bottoms that only a personality loaded with passion can do justice to this creation. I know skinny jeans and pants look amazing as well but the spell of “bell bottoms” is UNMATCHED.

Bell bottoms have been my best mate from High School. Just like one has an “X Factor ” and the other “does not” – the same way one either likes the “bell bottoms” or does not. “Bells” are worn by the Go – getters and dream weavers.

My dress code on a casual day is an absolute well fitted flared denims / pants with a statement belt, combined with a T- Shirt / Shirt. I am simply a cowgirl in my heart and soul. I not only love horses, but I love the euphoria of breaking the norm that bell bottoms can create. The “cowgirl” in me instantly awakens as I brace myself in the magical flared pants. And yes, when I add a “hat” and “boots” to the look, I ain’t stopping for anyone!!

The “flared legs” were originally made in the 17th century for men working on the boat, as they could be easily rolled up while washing the decks. It became the uniform of the U.S Navy in the 1950’s. And if the sailors fell overboard the pants could be easily pulled off over boots or shoes. They could also be filled with air and used as a floatation device. So bell bottoms emerged from the functionality and the ease it created. In the 1960’s and 70’s “Bell Bottoms” became extremely popular as they were simply unconventional and cool. The youth began to love the flared pants for the same reason, rebuking the old fashion and expressing their love for freedom.

During the 1960’s, those among the youth who did not conform to the conservative styles of dressing, fell in love with the then inexpensive “Bell Bottoms”. Young people at that time shopped for the flared bottoms at the Military surplus stores. Wearing a part of the old military uniform added much appeal to their personality reflecting change and strength. The “Bell Bottoms” became a symbol of the rebellious one’s in the 60’s.

The youth painted the pants with colourful peace symbols and embroidered flowers, to promote the Anti War message to the world, showing how much they were against the Vietnam War that took place from (1954 – 75).

Flared pants became so much of a rage, but those who could not find them, often made their own flared pants by cutting the sides and attaching an extra triangle cloth to be fashionable.

By the 1970’s, the designers had started manufacturing the bell bottoms in different fabrics like denims, satin, cotton, polyester. Both men and women started wearing them with zest and liberation. My favourite singer Cher, James Brown wore “bells” with absolute style. Some of the flared pants were so wide at the bottom that they were also called the “Elephant Bells “.

They became popular among the pop stars and became an outlandish symbol of glamour. From printed to shimmery all sorts of bell pants were seen worn in the 70’s. The trend successfully continued in the 80’s as well. But also straight pants and denims had taken over the fashion scenario again. But none the less the style picked up momentum in the 90’s and since then it has been repeatedly on the runways across the world.

The bell styles today are inspired by the funky designs of the past and now bell pants can also be seen on the lace fabric. Infact, I recently picked up a lace suit with lace bell pants being an attractive element of the outfit. It is seldom that I will miss out on a well fitted bell bottoms ever, as one does not find them easily and even when the new styles are produced by brands, they are the first one’s to be grabbed from the shelf.

In the 70’s the “bells” were more high waited one’s. But now the ” bells ” are modified to the mid waist and low waist huggers. I love the fact we go back to where we started when it comes to fashion and the evolution today matches the basics of yesterday.

Some of my favourite designers for the bell bottoms are Celine, Elisabetta Franchi, True Religion, Balmain, Zara, TOPSHOP, J Brand, For All Mankind, Frame, D&G, YSL, DONDUP, Stella McCartney, Sonia Rykiel, Liu JO etc. These brands have the most fabulous fits that sits like a glove on your bottom.

Adorning “bell bottoms” gives you a BOHO vibe. When you wear your bell bottoms with a shirt just like mine, it takes you to an era. My “red polka” shirt is completely retro and takes one back to the 80’s style. I love to wear linen flare pants in the summer season. They are simply chic and breathable.

My satin bell pants are sultry and fun as well but these can be worn to formal occasions. Whatever the fabric may be ” bells ” are a statement in it self. So grab the best hugging bell bottoms this season and team it up with a funky top or a shirt. Spice up your look with accessories and perfect stilettos and go on and flaunt your FLARES with all your Flair!!

Power Up in Suits!!!

Power Dressing is SIMPLY SEXY:

“Clothes maketh the Man” has been the famous saying which became popular from the 16th Century. And when it comes to being perked up in a well cut suit, it better make you look beyond “dapper”. Power dressing has always been the real meat for me in my closet. It has so much to say with those fine cuts. It defines your persona and gives a no nonsense vibe. It defines your determined outlook towards life.

Power dressing is classy and reflects a personality of a person, potent with style, discipline, vision, integrity, responsibility, grace and character. Power dressing has always been used by men and women to dignify themselves and their positions, in the field of their work. Power dressing sets the tone for an individual to be treated in a respectable manner. Wearing a well cut suit is like a silent command to others to deliver their best and be treated with a sense of clout.

“Suiting up” has a lot to do with how you feel about yourself. The way one carries one’s suit, is a real art of displaying grace and grandeur.

In 1870’s Actress Sarah Bernhardt scandalized Paris by wearing a “custom made suit”. It liberated women and they wore these suits for riding, walking and outdoor activities. These “Boy Clothes” became the place of salvation for women.

Gabriella Coco Chanel gifted the world with “Timeless Suits” in the year 1914 that gave women a sense of freedom and power among men.

Women took to Pant – Suit in the 1920’s with “hats” and looked exclusive.

Katherine Hepburn supported the masculine look with much oomph and resplendence. She was called “The First Lady Of Menswear”. She also supported power shoulders during the 1930’s, proving she was far sighted with her “rebellious fashion sense”.

The “hulky” shoulders were loved by the most glamorous women of the time like Joan Crawford, Ann Blyth, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie wood, etc. were all seen in the dynamic “waist hugging suits”.

And the trend continued to spark the fashion scene for decades. Even today, I run to my blazers if I want that edge over other outfits. I wear the blazers on torn denims, pants, skirts, dresses and shorts. A well cut jacket or even a loose style suit gives you much eminence to make heads turn.

From Royal Women to the professionals all have looked spectacular in their outfits in the 1980’s. Princess Diana was immaculately dressed in them making “power dressing” a phenomenon.

“Power dressing” was a phrase originally used in the 1970’s in America and by the 1980’s everyone was wearing the debonair outfit. Tailored Jackets, shoulder pads, tapered pants and slim cut skirts were the coolest innovation.

The look was at it’s peak when Michael Jackson wore a “suit” in his famous song “Smooth Criminal” in 1988. The famous movie “Working Girl” gave a new sense of being to women evolving with a “fearless demeanour” in the 80’s.

Many women in the political scenario fell in love with the empowering sets. Jacqueline Kennedy was a benchmark of grace and her streamlined suits were marvellously worn with pearls and hats. Margaret Thatcher, Hillary Clinton etc. have adorned suits with much sophistication as well.

And the trend continued to spark the fashion scene for decades. In the present scenario they have made a gallant come back with bold prints and cuts. They are being worn to every occasion. From formal to casual, now suits are worn with a pair of heels and cool sneakers as well. Depends on how you want to look.

Remember the very talented singer, Lady Gaga recently wore an oversized suit to the Elle Magazine’s Women in Hollywood Event. She looked endearing!!!

I can never forget a picture of Eva Mendes flaunting her well toned curves in a perfectly tailored suit. She looked beyond vivacious. The saying less is more – Well in this case – more is certainly leaving the world restless ! 🙂

Sneakers worn with suits look urban, cool yet affirmative and desirable. With super formal suits like mine one can choose to also wear flat shoes or white sneakers and stand apart.

Brands like D&G, Sandro, Kooples, Topshop, Zara, Marc Jacobs, Whistles, Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Marina Rinaldi, Elisabetta Franchi, Mango, La Vie Rebbeca Taylor, Nordstrom, ASOS etc. have some great collection of suits that one check out.

My black Tux looks rather sexy and sophisticated. I love this suit for its confident, charming, suave vibe. It fits me like a glove and also is beautifully designed with detailing on the pants and jacket . An outfit like this one is enough to make you feel nothing less than a bond girl.

I am absolutely in love with the “Pink Suit” I am wearing. I styled it all formal with pearls and heels. This outfit looks spectacular when worn to any formal event. From shows, events, promotions, parties to after parties you will look charismatic and stunningly poised. One can carry a classic Chanel bag or a simple bag that adds to the simplicity of the outfit with a fresh and minimalistic make up and let your personality shine through it.

I feel a “suit” allows you to be “UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOURSELF”!!!

Sailing in Stripes!!!

The Breton Stripes 🙂

Ola Everyone! So If you peep into anyone’s closet, you are sure to find a Striped T – Shirt, Shirt or a Sweater hanging in there. There is almost no one I know, who does not own a striped garment. It is like missing the basics in your fashion wardrobe. Stripes are simply cool and casual. There is something easy going about stripes yet they distinguish you from the rest impeccably. From black and white to colourful stripes they are scorching the runways for years now and in the present scenario Stripes are the real attention seekers. Skin fit dresses, pants, blazers, formal dresses in organza and silk etc. have been eye catching at the Fashion Weeks in London, Paris, Milan and New York.

Breaking the taboos of the past – Stripes have catapult itself to being chic on the high street fashion scene.

Stripes have come a long way from the Medieval times, when it was considered demeaning to wear them. During that time, it was a uniform worn by the prisoners, criminals including sex workers, clowns, jugglers etc. By the 18th Century, Europe witnessed this pattern as being accepted as fashionable by all. More sporty and casual attires were being produced in this design by then. Courtesy Queen Victoria, who in 1946 dressed her four-year-old son, Albert Edward in a sailor suit to board the Royal Yacht. Since then, stripes became the latest fad for one and all.

The 1958 Act of France made it imperative for the sailors in the French Rivera to be dressed in blue and white striped woven jersey’s bearing 21 horizontal lines as their uniform, known as the “Mariniere”. This law was passed so that the men of the French Navy could easily be spotted incase of emergencies or was overboard.

The classic Breton Stripe (navy blue and white stripped) T – shirts originated from a place called Brittany in France. Later in the year 1917, the famous french designer Gabriella Coco Chanel visited the coast and was taken aback by the striking stripes on the jerseys of the seaman. She then launched her Nautical Collection with Breton Stripe Tops and Jerseys and soon it became a rage among the posh heads as well.

By then Hollywood was smitten by these bar codes and you could see the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Seberg, Brigitte Bardot etc. wear them on boats and at leisure with much panache with high waisted trousers and jackets.

By the 20th Century, United States also gave up the badge of shame attached to this striking pattern and it became the coolest attire for the punk rock lovers who wore these striped shirts under their biker jackets.

Stripes look dynamic worn both to work or a night out. You can easily decide the vibe you want out of a this pattern …..you can always team it up with right accessories and change the look. In one of my blog posts I had mentioned earlier about how one can dress casual and formal in colourful stripes. Accessories change the whole vibe of an outfit. You can always choose to underplay or go blingy according to the occassion. My favourite stripe jersey is with blue and white stripes with an anchor made on it- it just looks spectacular when worn with white pants or shorts.

Horizontal, Vertical or Slanting – Stripes will always be the head turners !

As you all know I like to break the fashion norms, so on my sailing trip to Thailand, I chose to wear the striped shorts which were high on comfort and style. You can team it up with a cool crop top. You could also wear it with a bikini top and dazzle.

My sailing trips are incomplete without my well made UPF hat and a good sunscreen with minimalistic make up. On trips like these I love to stay hydrated with coconut water and yes nothing surpasses the glow that comes from inner bliss. 🙂

We Love SHADES OF GREY!!!

Winter loves Grey: )

Can you imagine your winter wardrobe without the colour Grey? I simply can’t!! It feels like a “Fashion Faux Pas” to miss this tint in my winter collection for sure!

Gone are the days when “Grey” was considered boring!! Grey is the new “White” or “Black” I would say. This hue makes me feel calmer, balanced and in control even when I am dressed up in the most casual attire. I love my entire collection of Greys – from tracks, hoods, shorts, jumpers, sweaters, cardigans, trousers, caps etc. This neutral colour is the coolest colour this season. This shade worn anytime looks elegant and classic. The Soft Grey Relaxed wear is rather stylish and my favourite this season.

Grey makes me feel dominant and powerful. Yes there is some seriousness attached to the look and that’s why Grey has been a popular colour for school uniforms and work wear. But now, clothes and fabrics with different shades of Grey have given a new dimension to the vibe of an outfit. Greys go well with all colours- blue, white , black, pink, orange, yellow, red etc . When combined with pastels and brighter colours it heightens the other shades and yet stands out independently – That’s the beauty of ” Grey ” !!

Do you know Grey was a highly fashionable colour in the 18th Century for both women’s dresses and men’ s waistcoats and coats. Grey also became “the colour of the military uniform” as men in dark grey could not become easy targets for their enemies. They were worn in “the American Civil War” and the German Army wore it both in the First and the Second World War.

In the 19th Century, different tones of grey were being used to make the most charismatic paintings by famous artists. Men in Grey Flannel suits looked intriguing at all times. From Fashion to Art, to business, industrialisation, architecture, interiors etc. Grey has been a ruling colour.

This is a perfect weather to snug up in my woollen over the knee sock and my soft, comfy, high neck jumper. These thigh hugging socks have become a rage of the season. They come in different colours and knit designs. They not only look sexy but keep you warm. This combination is perfect not only to laze in your abode, but also is a head turner when worn with tan brown boots and a brown or a colourful sling bag.

It is undeniable that there is something so alluring about the colour Grey. It is a unanimously loved shade and looks amazing on everyone.

I love my jumper and sock. They are available at brands like Zara, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Next, Wallis, Dorothy Perkins, etc.

Each shade of grey brings out a new you. A darker shade can make you look mysterious and a lighter one – sporty and fresh. The grey relaxed looks are here to stay as they bring out the softness in your personality. It has a hint of simplicity, far away from complexity. It adds a clean vibe to your persona.

The speciality of all shades of grey is that it can be worn with any colour and it will hold it’s ground like a ruler!! From Elephant Greys to Charcoal, from Dull to Metallic, From Ice Grey to Soft Silver – we love to play with shades of grey 🙂 !!!

All Love for Chic & Classic!

Hello Style Lovers!!

Want to know about one of my weaknesses?? Well! It’s the obsession I have for chic dressing. At most occasions I choose to dress sophisticated. It without a doubt stimulates my fashion sensibilities. There’s something classy, neat, easy and impactful about dressing chic. The word “Chic” is derived from a French word “Chique” – which means skilfully smart, stylish and fashionable.

The best thing about chic dressing is one does not need to keep buying the latest trendy clothes and you don’t look like you are a fashion victim ever. No matter how old your outfit is, it will only represent who you are in the truest sense. The Classic style is flattering on just anyone and that’s the magic of timeless dressing.

Chic dressing is dignified and refined. One can choose to pick an outfit according to one’s body type and look suave. Whether you look flattering in a dress, suit or a combination sets, that’s for you to decide.

I am an ardent fan of Chanel like many of you. I love the brand not only for the luxury it exuberates, but also for the magic of simplicity Gabriella Chanel gifted the world. Gabriella Chanel proved that, no matter where you may come from, the magic of being a visionary leads to the beginning of a new era.

The ever classic beauties Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Katherine Hepburn were head turners in their elegant ensemble. In the present scenario, I am a huge fan of Queen Rania’s style. Elegance leaves an impact like nothing else does. Its reflects one’s personality eloquently. It is charming, poetic, beautiful, dainty yet STRONG!!

Chic dressing comprises of well cut shirts, dresses, skirts, pencil skirts, well cut suits, off shoulder dresses and much more. I have some of my favourite outfits and dresses that can be repeated endlessly on several occasions. An off shoulder dress in black and white is just discerning and tasteful…..It sits as one of my delish pieces in my wardrobe. 🙂

But nothing replaces a combination of black and white on an outfit. It is a bold yet understated combination. Black being a powerful colour and white being a colour of purity and peace, the combination brings out a striking vibe. Not much is needed when you wear this combination. You could wear a well cut white shirt with black pants, skirt or a dress or a suit, it will always be an enticing combination.

This outfit is a fabulous combination of both of my favourite colours. The skirt has the perfect Dior check on it. I love the Bow – Tie shirt which has white detailing on the wrist, neck and shoulder with the bow. Stockings add more grace to the formal look.

My well cut Italian shoes are perfectly designed to wear at work and formal events. You can see I have also teamed the outfit with long boots as well that can be worn as the temperature drops. One should always grab a pair of well made shoes as they are high on comfort and style. You can also choose to wear pointed stilettos for a more formal evening.

This look is perfect for work, formal lunch or dinner. My jacket is a tweed one which I completely love. Tweed makes one look fabulous as it has a vintage vibe to it. Overall the combination is “Chique “. One can always add a pair of pearl stud earnings with such an outfit. I avoid wearing any accessory in the neck with a bow – tie styled shirt. If I was wearing a top or a plain shirt I would have loved to add a pair of pearl strings with stilettos. You can keep your make up minimalistic but a wing eyeliner will make you dazzle with this look, for when we dress chic and classy, WE LET EYES DO THE TALKING !!:)

“FUR” The heat is on!

THE GLORIOUS FAUX FUR :

Hello Autumn Lovers 🙂

As we have moved to the fall season how can we not begin with the love we have for Fur. Exotic Fur is my Coronet!!

The primitive stories of Fur began when men would go hunting and wear fur on their bodies to protect themselves from the weather conditions. Boasting of a lion skin on their body was a sign of power, vitality, strength and courage. Fur was known for the “contagious magic” it had on the one wearing it, passing the strength, courage, power, skills, fertility to a human being. And the same feeling progressed to the sensibilities of men and women after centuries. The fashion world caught the same vibe of feeling exceptional adorning Fur and yes it continues to feel the same even today.

Fur boasts of the glam and luxurious styles of the rich and famous. It is warm, cozy and sexy. Fur was worn as a symbol of wealth and social status in the 11th Century. To be honest Kadarshian’s have impacted the fashion scenario from the last three years by flaunting fur coats gloriously, showing off their voluptuous bodies that popped many eyeballs.

Needless to say that the luscious fur coats are a must have for every winter wardrobe. As a child, I have memories of mom wearing them and since then I knew that a beautiful fur coat had a special place in a woman’s heart and closet.

The European Royalty loved Fur coats, capes, accessories made of mink and sable. To my surprise there was a law introduced in the 1300’s, that regulated which social classes were allowed to wear which types of furs…Quite a discriminating law I must say but it was changed later.

Fur was completely loved in the Victorian Era and by the 1800’s they were also worn by men and women. Women wore fur coats with fur on the collar, wrists and at the Hem. By 1950’s the glitterati started wearing them in the movies, parties, social events etc. intensifying its rage among all. The designers now started creating new styles by introducing shorter fur coats. With much demand for them, a happy news floated for the animal lovers – Faux Fur was introduced in the 1960’s making it affordable for most people.

I am glad to see that Faux Fur came into being that early in the fashion industry. I am an animal lover and so much so, I turned into a vegetarian a decade ago. I don’t feel any less than a goddess wearing Faux Fur.

Faux Fur is magical as they are made by machines and they overtime have become denser and better quality with better acrylic polymers. Technology has been also used to produce environment friendly BIO FUR, which is less damaging to the environment.

Fur makes you look exotic. It defines your personality and adds to your sex appeal, that doesn’t go unnoticed. Fur coats and accessories make one look an absolute diva. I feel a halo around me when I am cozy in my Fur.

I love my cool grey suede fur coat as it is light in weight, which makes it easy to travel with. I have teamed it up with black shorts, stockings and a turtle neck top and have accessorised it with a chunky belt and edgy boots. This is my favourite look for the fall season as its stylish and simple to put together. Its comfortable and chic.

I love the length of this coat as it protects you from the cold and is not too heavy to party in style. Sometimes the weight of a coat can be such a turn off……I am not a fan of heavy clothing, as I feel it absorbs my aura. So I love this coat for its colour, fabric, cut, detailing, weight, length and comfort. And not only that it is pocket friendly aswell.

A few more brands like Adolfo Dominguez, Furless, Morphe, River Island, Charley Calder, Shein etc. have very stylish Fur clothing and accessories you would not want to miss out on.

Hello Fashion Lovers!!

What does Velvet remind you of ? It takes me back to Royalty – The royal thrones, magnificently designed velvet robes, stunning off – shoulder gowns with elbow kissing gloves, exotic furnishings and much more. There is something exclusive about this fabric.

Velvet represents an air of the powerful monarchs. Not only that, velvet has been used for ages to create the most mesmerising evening wear imaginable. Infact this is one fabric, that has progressed successfully in every century because of its deep rich appearance, adding much to your sex appeal.

Velvet originated early in 2000 BC in Cairo, Egypt. Egyptians introduced velvet to their nobility and began the history of this Royal textile. Velvet was also traced during the Han Dynasty around 221-206 BC in China.

Typically woven from the silk threads it is still a lavish textile. Centuries later the luxurious fabric was introduced in Iraq in 786 AD and later Middle East started producing it. By 809 AD, Europe had discovered the luscious fabric and started producing it as well. Love for velvet grew among the Egyptians and so did the demand for it. They started exporting the fabric in huge quantities to Venice, Italy. Soon Italy, Florence, Genoa started supplying this sought after fabric to the rest of Europe.

It was during the golden age of Renaissance, that Velvet became much known to the world. By now, this royal fabric was being used not only for clothing but for upholstery, wall coverings, draperies etc. Later with Industrial Revolution, the production of this fabric became easier, making it affordable which lead to its popularity among the middle class. The connotation of Royalty was still stuck with Velvet, even though it became easily available. But that is the case even today!

Velvet had promisingly established it’s space in the fashion world and when it reached America, it was used as the Glitsy Garment in the 1920’s, 30’s – 40’s. The velvety outfits were mostly worn to more formal occasions like it is even today. In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s it initiated a Boho vibe with the evolution of styles and cuts. How madly I have been in love with the velvet flared pants over the years – the style famously worn by the hippies and the rock stars in the 80’s. The whole world had access to this Royal Fabric by the 90’s.

Velvets have been in every wardrobe in different forms – jackets, suits, gowns, gothic wear, indian wear, stylish pants, dresses, etc. Its unusual luxurious texture sets it apart from other textiles. Even today on the fashion runways velvet has been used by the most famous designers to showcase the legacy attached to it, unveiling stunning craftsmanship not only on clothes but also on accessories like shoes, heels, boots, belts, bags, hair accessories etc.

My temptation soars when I look at a well cut dress or a velvet jacket with an interesting vintage detailing. A well cut velvet jacket makes me feel rather Aristocratic. Velvet jackets with emblems on the front pocket became a must have for most men recently. It undoubtedly adds a regal air to one’s personality.

Velvet smoothly created its niche among the fashion brands – Velvet high waisted pants, suits, heels, tops, shirts, sun glasses, skirts, joggers suit, sports wear, etc. have had a fling with everyones taste. Velvet has a character of its own to make heads turn, even with one piece of well designed garment or accessory.

Brands like Juicy Couture, Yves Saint Laurent, J- Brand, Elisabetta Franchi, Hugo Boss, Adidas, Zara, Alessandra Rich, TOPSHOP, MIU MIU, Alexander Mc Queen, Emporio Armani, Gucci, D&G etc. have created impeccable styles for us in the luscious fabric. The list of brands is endless because the fact is that velvets are sexy and versatile.

I fell in love with this light pink velvet co-ord set. Its comfortable and soft. I like the detailing on the top with the gold zip on one side of the neck line. Highlighting of the brand is done on the sleeves and also on the shorts which gives it a casual streak.

To perk my outfit up I have accessorised it with a gold necklace and bold gold earnings that I often love wearing. I am wearing my metallic copper wedge heels to add some oomph to the look. You can wear this outfit to a fun lunch or a sundowner.

High Waisted Wide Leg Pants!!!

Go Vintage with the High Waisted Pants :

The wide legged pants go way back in the 1920’s, when they were initially worn as lounge pants. Remember the silky loose pants worn by the glamorous women looking all sultry in their abode!? The silky pants worn with velvet or silk jackets was the lounge look of the famous stars and it caught the fashion wave and women started wearing them to holidays too. In the 1930’s this lounge attire moved to the beach and was modified as the beach pyjamas printed in floral patterns.

In the mid 1930’s, the style was reformed to the widest pleated pants ever worn. Top and Pant sets with matching belts came in vogue followed by jumpsuits in the late 1930’s. The trend continued through every decade …….peaking in the 1970’s with the rise of boho hippie culture – which brought a revival of the wide legged bell bottoms back from the 1930’s.

An Evolution of lounge pants could be seen prominently taking it a notch above with the flashy buttons in the front adding much statement to the look.

These pants have made a comeback with amazing weaves. They are present in different fabrics -from linen, cotton, wool etc. Wide legged pants are perfect for leisure wear. The one’s I am wearing particularly are very casual ones with pockets. To add some vibrance to the boring grey, I teamed a colourful striped top. You can also wear these grey pants with a classic white shirt, or a white shirt with the balloon sleeves or colourful tops to get a perky disposition.

These pleated wide legged pants are comfortable and breathable. I like the detailing of the belt on the waist, which gives more character to my pants. Similar pants in Wool and checks look super fashionable in the Fall Season with a well cut jacket. The cut and fabric change the dynamics of a garment phenomenally.

The wide legged pants are a statement in itself, so grab them now and team them with t-shirts, shirts, fun accessories like bracelets and sunnies. The wide legged pants look great with the wedge pumps or flats ….depending on your look and comfort. I have mine ready for fall as well……what about you?

Hello Rock Lovers!!

I hope you all have been shining in your own light and if not ….it’s never too late to dig beneath your own feet and find Gold!!!

Singing along Dua Lipa now………before I begin to write more, let me share my frenzy for music with you all. Proud to share that I had a girl band in college. Shooting for this blog post turned out to be much fun as we created “happy moments” with my dear rockstar friend, Jasleen Aulakh, an amazing and a soulful singer! I dedicate this blog post to our friendship over the years!! And more so, we could not miss some Guitar & Glam for this feature!!

A Rocker for me is anyone who defines life with his/her own beliefs and sets the stage of life on fire with that emotion. The Rebel, The Artist, The Hero – A Rockstar is a “Rule Bender” for the same reason! They love being real and the beauty is they do it with madness for the art which magnifies their being as vast as the Universe, making the world go CRRRAAAZZZYYY with their charisma. There is a revolutionary residing within them.

Edgy and glamorous, the rock chic style flashed the fashion scene in the 1970’s and mind you it is never going out of vogue ever!! The bell bottoms, loud shirts, slogan T- shirts, Torn Denims with badges and pins are always going to set this look apart. When I dress up edgy, I instantly feel a renewed sense of confidence to enjoy my evening, rolling with some cool music from all Genres. Its a “HIGH” ……the “high” of your soul, your attire and the “high” of music ……and when you share that with the people who vibe with you…….the Euphoria is inexplicable!!

It is just so easy to dress up like a Rock chic – you can wear a pair of torn slim or flared denims/ leather pants/ ripped shorts / leather skirt with a ripped t-shirt, or a cool shirt, wear some cool accessories like a funky bracelets, a hat, boots or Edgy Heels. Wear a sexy leather jacket to add some weight of your frenzy if you like. There’s so much that you can do with this look….like add a bandana, wear a black nail paint, make your eyes all smoky or add a lot of kohl to look dramatic.

I chose the glam look and knotted my favourite shirt with stars hanging from one end. This shirt is a very unique one. This black denim is my favourite pair from “True Religion”. It is a statement in itself as their fit and detailing is Fab and uplifting. The white detailing on it makes one look sharper. A pair of Black Aviators or Metallic glasses will go perfectly with this attire. I am wearing my snake leather white pumps which are comfy and edgy at the same time. You have often seen me wear the same bracelets…..they are a part of me and I love them for they have healing energies.

With many brands available at our disposal – there are no derth of options in stores and online. Grab your hands on anything that suits your budget…….brands like Philip Plien, Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Hood By Air, Supreme NewYork, Marcelo Burlon, Jeremy Scott, Stussy, Off White Etc. have a very edgy collection. You can find much collection at Zara, H&M, Adidas, Black Scale, Urban Outfitters, Rockers NYC, Hollister etc.

There is a whole ocean out there so – Grab what you relate to best and let the world detest…….. coz you’ve got the moves like Jagger 😉 😉
